SITUATION

Our country is divided politically to a degree and level of intensity that is the worst I’ve seen in my lifetime. There are forces at work seeking to divide us, not only on political lines, but also by identity. We have lost a national consensus on those things that truly make America unique and the place that has drawn millions from all over the world – not just for opportunity, but for the vision, identity and liberty laid out in the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to our Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Sadly, many of our fellow citizens have grown lukewarm to the wonder and genius of our Founding, with others increasingly rejecting it.

Thankfully, these are not the issues that divide the vast majority of Republicans nationwide. However, Republicans at the local, Commonwealth/State, and national levels have allowed their diverse views on what it means to be a Republican and on various hot-button issues to divide us, rather than rallying together around the 80% of things we are on solid agreement on. THIS MUST STOP!

WHY I AM RUNNING

Each one of you reading this is likely to agree to varying degrees about my assessment of the situation. The question is, what do we do about it? The answer is that each one of us have a responsibility to do what we can to preserve the uniqueness and beauty of the idea that is America for our follow-on generations. And the only way we can have an impact nationally is for each of us to have an impact locally, and grow from there.

So, given the state of division within the FCRC, and my sense that we’ve gotten off track as to purpose, as we approach our biennial reconstitution, I asked myself who had the best chance to lead an effort to bring us back together, and to refocus on common purpose? And I said, if not me, who? I don’t say this with arrogance, but with self-knowledge. I sincerely believe that my background, experience and temperament, along with my proven ability to form bonds with those perceived to be on different sides, makes me best qualified to lead our FCRC as we move forward together.

My reasons for running for Chairman are to lead our Republican Committee to unify around its core purpose – growing our Republican Party in Fauquier County by serving our fellow citizens, and educating and persuading them that elected officials and citizens who believe in and operate according to the principles contained in the Virginia Republican Creed will bring the most benefit to the greatest number of people in our County, in our Commonwealth, and in our Nation. In order to accomplish this, we must reach out aggressively to both our younger citizens and those in our diverse and unreached communities. I will insist that our Committee operate transparently, treating all members, and those who join with us, with dignity and respect, and fostering a spirit of inclusion.
